  • Big Change in 2026 School Holidays: Ramadan Break Reduced by Nearly 18 Days

Big Change in 2026 School Holidays: Ramadan Break Reduced by Nearly 18 Days

The Ministry of Education has released the school holiday list for 2026 for government and non-government secondary and lower secondary schools. The new list shows fewer holidays than last year, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. Because of this, many teachers and parents are unhappy with the decision.

The holiday list was published on Sunday, December 28, by the Government Secondary-1 Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Division. According to the list, schools will have a total of 64 holidays in 2026. This number includes weekly holidays on Fridays and Saturdays. Last year, schools had 101 holidays when weekly holidays were counted. This means students will get much less time off in 2026.

The longest break next year will be from March 8 to March 26. This holiday will last 19 days and includes Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, and Independence Day. In 2025, schools enjoyed around 28 days of Ramadan holidays if weekly holidays were not counted. In 2026, Fridays and Saturdays have been included, which has shortened the actual break.

The Eid-ul-Azha and summer vacation will also be shorter. Schools will remain closed from May 24 to June 4, which is 12 days, including weekly holidays. Last year, this vacation was 15 days long. For Durga Puja and other religious occasions, schools will get five days of holidays. This year as well, weekly holidays have been included in the total count.

At the same time, teachers and parents have raised concerns about continuing regular classes until more than half of Ramadan. They say fasting students find it hard to attend long classes, especially during hot weather. Many students feel weak and tired, which affects their focus in class.

Teachers have also said that teaching while fasting for long hours is very difficult. Parents believe Ramadan should allow more rest and flexibility for students. They have requested the authorities to review the holiday plan and consider the health and well-being of both students and teachers.

BTEB Board Challenge Result 2025 to be published soon

The Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) is getting ready to publish the BTEB Board Challenge Result 2025. Officials confirmed that the result is now in the final stage of preparation. The updated marks may be released within the next few days. Thousands of Diploma students across the country are waiting for this result because many of them applied for rechecking after the semester results were published.

BTEB published the semester-wise results for Diploma in Engineering, Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality, and Certificate in Marine Trade on October 26, 2025. Soon after the release, many students noticed grades that did not match their expectations. This created confusion and frustration among the candidates. As a result, a large number of students submitted board challenge applications. The rescrutiny application period started on October 27 and continued until November 4, 2025.

Earlier reports from BTEB showed that the pass rate for some semesters was very low this year. In the Diploma in Engineering 1st Semester under Regulation 2022, a total of 56,725 students took part in the exam. Out of them, only 15,219 students passed. The situation in the 2nd Semester was even more surprising. Only 24 students passed out of 3,939 candidates. Because of these numbers, many students felt that mistakes might have occurred during the evaluation. This is why so many of them requested rechecking through the board challenge system.

A relevant source said that the checking work is now almost complete. The official added that the BTEB Board Challenge Result 2025 will be published very soon if there are no delays. Once the result is ready, it will be available on the official notice board at bteb.gov.bd. Students will need to download the PDF file and search for their roll number to see if their marks have changed.

BTEB has also reminded students that the rescrutiny process is meant to correct any errors. Marks do not decrease through this method. Instead, they remain the same or increase if the board finds mistakes in the earlier evaluation. After the result is published, institutions will start updating their records based on the revised marksheets.

Right now, thousands of Diploma students from different institutes are waiting for the updated results. Many of them are hoping for a positive change in their grades. BTEB is expected to release an official notice shortly.
